No, they're also stocking a new German PN, cant remember the name, Platinum I think, the label looks really cheap, reduced to £4-ish, I'll wait for someone else to try that one.

If it is "Palatium", then I've been enjoying the Pinot Blanc from T for years.

I picked up a bottle of the Cromwell. Made by PLB Wines of Tesco "Old Renwick Road" fame. This is also bottled in the UK.

Only Winery of note I can find in Cromwell is Mount Difficulty. Hmmm.

A Cromwell winery owes about $6 million to secured creditors and an estimated $1.2 million to unsecured creditors as receivers begin preparing the business for sale.

WHK Cook Adam Ward Wilson receivers Duncan Fea and Alistair King have released their first report on Central Otago Vintners, which was placed in receivership on September 19.

The report showed Southland Finance, which holds the first mortgage, was owed $4,736,280 and second mortgage holder Secured Lending Ltd $1,331,959.

A total of $14,268 was owed in wages, holiday pay and PAYE at the time of receivership. Unsecured trade creditors are estimated to be owed $1,260,268.

Mr Fea said receivers were finalising the last of the building and development certificates required for the two-year-old property, and a sale information memorandum would be prepared for prospective buyers.

He was confident the facility would sell for a good price.

There had already been interested parties, and once the memorandum was completed those parties would be able to find out whether they wished to proceed to a formal tender document, he said.

The contract winery processing company is located on Ripponvale Rd on the outskirts of Cromwell.

The current operation can process 650 tonnes of grapes with plans already drawn up for a 600 tonne increase in capacity.

Winemaker Jed Penkman is processing the 300 tonnes that remain on the site.

Director and sole shareholder Robin Schulz had blamed the current financial climate and difficulties in financing and picking and processing of a 20% increase in last year's grape crop, compounded by the failure of an overseas investor to complete settlement of a major stage of the McArthur Ridge vineyard

There's quite a glut in NZ at the mo, some Producers will struggle. Some will go to the wall.

Hi Tribs, cant say, just dunno. The '07 Grey ghost was very nice indeed. The Marlborough '07 vintage is different as you know.
Also looked at Villa Maria reserve Marlborough Pinot Noir, which on the '07 is an excellent vintage and rated by everyone - Bob gives it a confident 93. Stephen Tanzer and co also.

Looked up alternative sources for the VM black & grey label reserve PN on the '07 and found it for £11 but delivery is £7. I do want some.

Right now I'm drinking a consignment of duty free 2009 Claret - so Lush, lovely flavour, quite easy already and the wonderful basic which won the gold at the concours vins D'Acquitaine is only 3.95 euro in the 6 box.....when you (buy a six box in France during the wine fair and you get the 6th one free)..... So my mind is completely bent on ordering while the La Foire Aux Vins is running in french supermarche.

The JE Grey Ghost 2008 is drinking well and would keep for a bit too. The real bargain is the regular JE 2009 at £6 (until tomorrow online). They have put the 25% discount on top of a deal i have done for the wine shows so it is not far off half price, and still tasting great.

JE used to be a huge favourite around here. It's been eclipsed recenly by various Saint Clair wines. Why don't Tesco sell SC. It would save us from having to order it by the dozen at Majestic Wine and other such places.

...whilst i am talking about the Tesco online deal another great buy is the Beronia Rioja Reserva 2005 at £7.50. The normal rsp for this wine is £12.99. It won Gold medal Best in Class at this years IWSC. They said "Dark crimson red, with a pink rim. Beautifully lifted aromatic nose, damson and cherry with soft red berries, warm spice, herbs and woodsmoke. This really sings in the mouth, restrained elegance, silky mouthfeel and wonderfully intergrated oak. An absolute beauty, to drink or keep." This wine will be great for another 4 to 5 years.

Yes Paul, That is a very good tip you are giving. How is the Beronia drinking. 2005 is a 4.5 star vintage, while not so elegant or firm when young as 2004, it nevertheless is up there with 2001 as well. 2005 is said to be similar to 1995 in Alta, a little softer and earlier.

I will have to google it to see if it's Alta or which sub region it is from.

A good deal. You can't say anymore about this wine, those accolades sound amazing ! You didn't write that TN, did you Hmnnn - just looked it up, Tesco say Alta, which in my view is the best sub region for elegance when mature.

I like JE MSB .........I will get to the '09 vintage eventually, and then we can compare notes

Beronia is in the Alta and the 2005 is drinking really and will continue to do so for a few years yet. I have some 2001 which really has developed into an elegant wine but now needs drinking. We have our company conference out there next month (Gonzalez Byass that is...i don't work for Tesco as i believe Goosegogs thinks i do...so no power to get Saint Clair listed i'm afraid) so i'll see what the later vintages are looking like.
